Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

Magical Paris

First and foremost, it has to be said: This is THE most magical
fantastical collection ever!
Bringing together the innocence of "Virgin Suicides"
and stolen memories of a lost childhood, every girl is going to
relate to, and want a piece of this french tart!

.........................................

So, let's talk the most beautiful stage show ever made:
Imagine being at this show, I would have to be tied down so as not to
jump on stage and be part of the party myself! A breath-taking pure white
carousel sits perched as if on a cloud at the top of the runway...

The style of this collection is a perfect mix of crisp pastels as well as
beautiful doll-like details including lots of lace and
seemingly "over-sized" anglaise peter-pan collars and skirt edges,
with bits of silver detail and glittery bits bringing out the fairy-tale like aesthetic
to this Paris-in-the-Spring romantic tale.

Just LOVING this Candy Shop - Paris POP shoot.....
Absolutely gorg!

A truly successful collection

Perfect Summer in Cape Town

There's nothing better than being in Cape Town in the peak of Summer.

It really makes you appreciate the beautiful city we live in. For those of you in the rest of the parts of SA - you should be here right now. And for those of you who don't live in South Africa... shame!

It's this time of the year when dressing is the easiest...
Oh to wake up and throw on two or three items of clothing and you're dressed... kinda makes you feel like a guy in that respect.. LOL
Driving on that coastal road between Llundudno and Green Point though really is amazing... one of my best drives in Summer and I recommend you to stop by any of the street cafes in Camps Bay
for amazing lunches and cocktails with friends...

Ah, this is too fun!

What to wear?

Anything that you're comfy in is important
(Especially if your car "aircon" is stuck permanently on hot!! haha)
Yeeeh been meaning to fix that!
You don't want fabrics that are going to cling too much to you
on a day like this, so any light fabric is perfect... My outfit went a little like this:

Love your City and love our Summer!

The Help - 10 Gorgeous Dresses!

I often think back and say to myself
"If I could live in any era, which would I choose?"
I change my mind constantly, but after watching The Help (2011)
a couple of days ago, I got totally inspired by the late 50's to early 60's
fashion again... sigh!

I think that the lifestyle of these ladies really
romanticizes these dresses... All I want to do is put one of these babies
on and bake a pie for my husband and kids (yes, the housewife
in me is totally coming out right now!)

I love everything about this style. From the conservative high necklines, to the
washes of pastels, bright and bold floral prints,
"poofey" like skirts, high-waisted details, I think
this style is bright, young and fun, and am VERY happy that
these dresses haven't gone out of style!

Has the most BEAUTIFUL collection of apparel.
But I spotted and particularly LOVED these dresses, which look
like they could have been used for the styling of The Help...

So if you love this style, this is a great website to go purchase
your little dress from, otherwise look at the style,
colours, prints and details below and look out
for your very own 50's dress :)

Go look at Modcloth's website over here!

The Monthly Frame - Jan 2012

Hi guys,

Welcome to my new insert:
THE MONTHLY FRAME.

In this space I'll be  posting up a new pair of frames each month,
courtesy of Pro Opticals.com

Whether you need specs or not, it's pretty clear
that wearing a hot pair of frames has, in the past few years,
become an easy way to add style and sophistication to any outfit...
The first pair I'm blogging about is a standard win every time:
Everyday neat black frames.

I've chosen this pair, as this sort of shape literally suits
everyone who tries them on. To avoid looking too heavy on the face,
it's a nice idea to look for frames that have pretty detailing but that still allows
your frames to be your standard black beauty (Kind of like
that little-black-number every girl should have in her closet).
On these frames, there is clear plastic on the inside
and top and bottom, which doesn't make them too
"thick" and heavy on the face. Like I said, a perfect win with this pair!

You can order them online here!

Until Next Month... :)

New books for Me!

I absolutely LOVE getting new books!

The most anticipated one being Mark Ryden's
The Tree Show.

1. LOOK AT ME --> by Jennifer Egan

This book  is about a fashion model, Charlotte, who gets thrown by a horrific face-altering car accident. This book is both dark and daring... a definite tip-up of American culture.

1. THE BOOK THIEF --> by Markus Zusak

I simply couldn't resist this romantically dark looking cover design, and if any book has won awards and you've heard it been mentioned in more than one conversation before, you know it's going to be worth it! Set in WW2, Germany, and narrated by Death himself, this book follows the life of a young girl, her family and neighbors during the escalation of WW2. After the first few pages you know immediately that this isn't an ordinary book at all! Cant WAIT to read!

1. THE TREE SHOW --> by Mark Ryden

Love art and anything creepy-cute and want a fantastic coffee table book? Mark Ryden has plenty to choose from! This little beauty arrived at my door last week, and it's absolutely amazing. High res beautifully printed pictures of Mark's sculptures, paintings and drawings for his "Tree Show" exhibition bounce off the page to steal your imagination!  Go here to check out more of his alluring art!

Beyond Buckskin - Native American / Tribal Fashion

Techno Tribal in Fashion.

What does this mean to you?

There has been a large amount of debate around this recently, and even a few unmentioned
world class fashion brands have been caught up in law suits due to this new trend. But where did
this all start?

To get a good idea of as to why the human race seems to
obsess over anything Native American or "primitive", a great book to read
is "Gone Primitive: Savage Intellects, Modern Lives" by Marianna Torgovnick.
In this book Torgovnick suggests that this type of "tribal fashion" was mostly
born in the 30's, where people of High Society and Fashion would
collect "native" trinkets and decorate themselves and their homes
with them, and she also has a detailed look into
the use of the "primitive in pop culture".

[[Book found here!]]

In 2009, and largely in 2010 there was a world wide flood of anything
"native" or "tribal" into almost every store.

Think ethnic prints, feathers, dreamcatchers, beads, browns and spicey colours paired with studs and leathery fringy bits and bobs...

Of course this fashion is completely influenced by the Western World's
stereo-types of these "native tribes" as well as silly fantasies around this theme.

Many may argue that this new trend is purely inspired and even "celebrating"
historical cultures. I think there is a FINE LINE between appreciation and complete
exploitation of anything in Art and Fashion...

What are your thoughts?

Luckily I wont be caught up in this world-wide debate, as I
don't like this trend AT all,
and if I see any feather printed, lumo
tribal-like print in store, I make a run and dive for the door!

Leave comments and let me know your thoughts!
