Nasty Gal - Cross Your Heart

Cross Your Hear†

..............................................................

I am a MASSIVE Nasty Gal fan,
and am constantly (I'd say on average
at LEAST 2 to 3 times a week) browsing on their
site for awesome on-trend fashion inspiration....

Their latest Lookbook features their
Collection.... And I quote from their site:

"Heaven-sent lace and crochet turn to the dark side. Think sweet
dresses spiked with gunmetal jewelry, sheer mesh loaded with chains,
and boots ready to stomp all over the city..."

Well, not much to add after that,
other than the cross micro-trend is still HUGE,
and well,
I just love this shit.

would HAVE to be the

Take a look below and LOVE
as much as I do... or, well, you
can try get close to it ;)

Free People Clothing - Born To Run

Born to Run...

....................................................

Free People is one of my tiptop sites for style inspiration
(as you'd know if you read my blog often)

And they often have gorgeous look books with beautiful themes... The last one I blogged about was their May Campaign which featured a very nostalgic, vintage and soft look on retro Miami...

So pretty.

Their newest campaign, called Born To Run, is all about the art and fashion of the "true american girl"...

Now on the 24th of April this year, I did another blog post about Flags in Fashion, and how this (not-so-new) trend keeps creeping back into our lives. It seems as though Free People have taken this Flag trend on again and "ran with it".

Born To Run is all about a fresh take on the Red, White and Blue. To quote from the site:

"Boardwalk strolls, Ferris Wheel rides and ice cold lemonades are all defining factors of a true American Summer"...

Lots of Crochet and distressed Denim feature here, as well as Gingham, Stripes, Polka Dots and Stars... Everything "Typically American".

My Item of the Collection would have to be the Waistless High Rise Red Cutoff shorts... Such a bold little garment! Love!!

A BRILL basic for summer...!!

Take a look at the images from the collection's Lookbook below and go to their site for
more gorgeous Free People treats!!

Enjoy

California Dreaming ...

California Dreaming ...

...................................................

... on a South African winters day! It is totally dismal in S.A at the moment, the
cold hard creepy finger of Winter is poking at my bones and I'm not happy
(being a total summer girl)

But alas, one good thing about being in the Southern Hemisphere is that I can
browse and gaze at online lookbooks from sites like Net-A-Porter
and float off into their beautifully shot fashion lookbooks

(all summer of course)

.... And Net-A-Porter.com has a GORGEOUS one up at the moment
which extends from the beloved Bo-ho festival chic trends.
It is about two girls, out on the dusty roads ...

it's about
shredded printed denims, crochet and interesting knits,
lots of prints and interesting croc skin details and dusty jewel-like colours

... Aah, I can feel the sun in the pictures now!!

Gaze through this brilliantly shot
totally gorgeous shoot below and visit the Net-A-Porter site
to find out more about the garments featured...

Enjoy!!

Kate Moss 90's Grunge Fashion Revival

90's Kate Moss

Studded shorts, £40
Elliott Lucca rucksack bag, $238
LK Designs black leather jewelry, €97

............................................................................................................................

I'm just LOVING

Anything that's remotely reminiscent of the 90's grunge style...
Kate Moss in particular got this right in her late 80's
early 90's self... (notice the VERY 90's backpack hehe)

This would be my ideal outfit now... I'm loving black and gold
and think this is a great platform to bring in everyone's current
fav - studded worn denim!

We Heart - Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey...
..............................................

... Actually born and named Elizabeth Grant, this singer-songwriter was born and raised in America, and moved to NYC at age 18 to do the coyote ugly thing (sans the dancing on the bar parts) to peruse her dream of being a famous musician... throwing college into the mix there.

And luckily for her, it all went according to plan and now she's quickly becoming a well noted fashion icon within the industry too.

Lana's carefully constructed image has been described as "a gangster Nancy Sinatra", and Lana herself dubbing her look as "Lolita-got-lost-in-the-hood"...

So what does this all mean really? Think innocent, vulnerable beauty mixed in with hardened gangsta hip-hop aesthetics.

Yup, that's Lana Del Rey...

I mean, who else would think to combine Frida Kahlo flowery head pieces with bad-ass gangsta gold bling? She is the perfect mix of vintage and urban, and this makes her a perfect new find for editorials.

Now, Lana's debut album "Born This Way" (hard not to instantly think "Gaga", isn't it?) focused specifically on all of the above, plus American vintage styling with retro graphics and accessories and that somewhat 80's Brooklyn trailer park chic...

Although there has been some heavy criticism on this lil'lady and her entire vibe, which let's be honest, there always will be some ass who has to have his finger in the pie and have something to say, it's pretty obvious that all Lana's references are very mod and current and are totally relevant to the youth market of the world today...

Which is probably why she's fast becoming pretty popular within the fashion and music circles...

  Definitelyone to look out for!

Enjoy :)

Local Talent - Suzann Heyns Fashion

Suzann Heyns...

................................................................

... Sounds very local doesn't it. Well it is, but you wouldn't think so by looking at her designs...
Which I completely fell in love with this morning when I rolled around her website...

She has this almost McQueen-like essence, a bit dark and slightly (pleasantly) twisted, her designs have been described as:

“having an architectural sentiment that has a feminine twist, with concepts derived from avante garde ideals and classic silhouettes.”

This becomes pretty clear when looking at her work : she weaves artistry and a bit of the bizarre into her garments, really capturing her unique vision for her brand and pushing the boundires of "ready to wear" attire.

Her A/W 2011 campaign is what really got my attention. Shot by Brett Rubin, and featuring the most gorgeously victorian of models posed carefully on a beachfront that looks like it was dugup from the past, her designs are given a platform in which to sing... Striking colours, textures and lines make this for a beautiful scene...

Her newer work, coming from her A/W 2012 collection is a darker, more macarbe scene that seems to tell a story, perhaps that of a vampire? That is up to your interpretation... Images of skulls, feathers and smoke really conjure up that mystical "deepest darkest africa" kind of feeling.... VERY different from what I've seen out of most local designers... stunning stuff!

Keep a look out and ear out for Suzann Heyns...

enjoy!!
