Next to buttons and shoes, Peplums are the next

longest living things that exist in fashion... well at least it would seem :)

The word "PEPLUM" dates back to the 19th Century,

and simply means "tunic". Back then, a peplum was

an "over-skirt" that was usually attached to a slim fitted jacket:

On February the 12th, 1947, Christian Dior shocked and pleased

the fashion world with what is now known as the "New Look".

His forward thinking designs won him the title of being the 

first ever fashion designer to be pictured on the cover of TIME MAGAZINE

in 1957:

Christian Dior popularized the Peplum dress, and it is making a HUGE comeback for spring/summer 2012

fashion houses all over the world:

SAG Awards 2012 - Hair Trend

Braids and Plaits

seem to be quite popular at this years SAG awards.

Never mind the amazing dresses, what caught me was this

little lovely girly hair trend that was seen on a few of the famous faces...

To best create this vintage look, try not wash your hair for

a day or two if you can stretch it that far, as then your plaits will be

less "frizzy" and will hold nicely in place! Also,

if you're feeling like royalty like the ladies below, twist it around

your head to create a crown-like effect... there really is a million

different things you can do with your hair and plaits providing,

of course, that you have the length to do it!

But if not, fear not, there are plenty of shops that 

sell hair pieces that can give you the same look :)

This concept-label is chock full of everything

sexy, cutting edge, sassy and fun.

I always keep a keen eye on this lable...

there's ALWAYS something interesting and daring 

going on

This collection has lots of dream-like natural colours,

with the odd Peach, Black and Gold popping up, as well

as lots of Sheers, Loose Knits and Lace...

Attention is paid to techniques such as shredding,

and by the looks of things the fabrics that have been 

used all add to that authentic and quality-filled feel this

brand is known for...

Jean Paul's Loving Amy Winehouse

Jean Paul Gaultier:

Spring/Summer 2012

Yesterday afternoon Jean Paul gave a beautiful, loving

tribute to our late and dear friend Amy Winehouse in his

Spring/Summer 2012 haute couture show.

The looks held names such as:

Brit Award

Victoria's Secret In My Bag

and

Love is a Loosing Game 

The models were adorned with Amy's signature 

Bee Hive Do, in a beautiful array of colours, 

as well as her thick flicked-up

eyeliner and highest of high heels.

And obviously the garments all held Jean Paul's

eccentric Frenchman aesthetic and detailing... mixed with Amy's iconic

Rockabilly Camden-minx vibe...

The clothing is stunning, as always,

and I think the mix of these two really made for an amazingly

original and exciting show!!

If you love Amy, and couture... this would have been

your show! I'd LOVE to know what Amy is thinking about this right now...

Road Trip to Langebaan

Out on The Road...

...with the wind in your face, the sun on your arm as you

let it fall out the car window... One of the best things

about living in South Africa, especially in the Western Cape, is the

natural beauty of our land. The best thing to do in summer

has to be a little road trip! This time my cousin, Chloe, and I went to Langebaan

to visit her dad, and took a drive through the nature reserve on the Sunday.

The weather was perfect and so was our mix tape :p

On our way home we stopped by a string of little shops

in the town. Chloe took me to this amazing little shop which housed

the most intricate, detailed and beautiful things...

From rustic old frames, to beautiful vintage teacups and jars, 

really anything you could think of this place had! My hands

were itching to buy everything in the place... it's not often

you come across a shop with such original, one-of-a-kind ornaments

and house decor... I had to post a few pics to show

the magical-ness of this shop!
