In a Tropical Paradise with Forever New this Summer

Forever New...

...........................................

... Earlier this month the few Forever New
stores dotted around South Africa welcomes their new
Spring/Summer 2012 collection:

This collection is very bright and fun,
comprising mostly of gorgeous tropical colours and prints
that are all brought together by new shapes and fabrics.

It is clear that a good ol' statement necklace
is the thing this summer, as well as sheer fabrics still
very much being on trend... So remember to
pile on the accessories, not the clothing ;)

Get to your nearest Forever New store in South Africa
and love every piece in this collection!!

Blogger of the Moment - Lipgloss Kisses by Chicara

.........................................................

... is my number ONE go-to blog for anything
SOUTH AFRICAN and beauty.

Written by Pretoria girl Chicara,
this blog features the most creatively put-together and
fun to read blog posts about
BEAUTY and fashion - with all local products!

Her blog is beautifully personal too.
My favourite weekly post is Chicara's
5 Favourites for Friday!

It's a little ensemle of Chicara's personal 5 favourite
anythings .. as well as a little blurb about each item!

She also features other more personal loves...
Some of which we share, including my all time fav survival horror
game - SILENT HILL ;)

I particularly LOVE Chicara's blog posts
where she will review a local brand...

Her write ups are always very on point
and honest and she always seems to have
the best and most interesting products to write about.
BIG PLUS is that everything is local
and easily accessible... and even better : affordable!

This is an image from her blog post where she reviewed NYX.

And here's a bit more info straight from the bloggers mouth:

.............................................

1. What are your top (1 or 2) products for WINTER and for SUMMER?
-WINTER - I love body oils to quench dry skin. My fave one is definitely the delightfully scented vanilla body oil from Tranquil Body Treats. Another two must haves for winter are a great lip balm and a rich face cream.  SUMMER - I love using highlighter on summer skin. It creates a gorgeous glow. One of my faves is definitely Benefits High Beam. I also love a bit of wash-off fake tan for my white legs. I adore Rimmel's version which I like to mix with a bit of Caribbean tan shimmer cream for flawless looking pins..
2. Fav personal make-up trend or style?
I love a dark grey/black smokey eye and it's been my signature 'going out' look for years. But recently I've really taken to soft, pretty pastel tones.

3. How would you describe your personal style and what have been your top fashion trends this year so far?
I'm a bit of a mix when it comes to my personal style. I'm a combination of girly-romantic and trendy. I'm obsessed with the pastel trend and of course the neon trend, which I'll be wearing in Spring/Summer.

..................................................
Here's two images pulled
from Chicara's blog, just to give you an idea on the fashion content
Chicara blogs about ... LOVE it that its all local
stuff....!!

BE SURE to go visit and follow Chicara's blog
especially if you're living in South Africa... I garuntee you'll be
going back daily to read!!

Shoe Of The Week - Studded Pump Goodness

Shoe Of The Week...

..........................................................

With my newest absolute LOVE for everything
studded
I insisted on finding a shoe of the week that was
studded up ;)

Available for a not-too-steep R519 at Zando.co.za

These Zoom Kaden Platform Heels
are the perfect addition to your heel collection.
Dress it up at night with anything glittery and sequined or pleather,
or down during the day with torn black jeans and a graphic tee - my FAV.

Go to the Zando website for some other amazing deals...
(I have a permanent link down the left hand side column on this blog)

And a little bird told me that apparently, if you're with FNB (as you should)
and you earn E-bucks (as I do!) you can spend them online at
Zando.co.za too! Yay us!

Seems like online shopping is actually getting somewhere in SA this year...

Enjoy!

Jozi's Own - Toyboy Designs

TOYBOY DESIGNS...

..................................................................

... Another AWESOME local brand straight outta Jozi,
(or Johannesburg, South Africa for my
international readers...)
some of you might already find this name familiar,
others might have seen it been mentioned in my last post about "Scrabbyl", and others
might already be pretty familiar with this label already.

So what is Toyboy all about? Well as the name suggests (but only slightly) this is a brand that specializes in Lego based accessories and decor. Hendrik (founded and maker of Toyboy) could kind of be considered the brother of Margaux Lange... hehe!

This is Hendrik!

And this is just a little bit of a peek into Hendrik and Reynier's mind tank.... :D

Lucky for me I got a small interview with the Toyboy brain itself... If you're a young entrepreneur in South Africa at the moment, this might be of some use to you..... if not? Just enjoy getting to know a little more about this beautiful brand:

.......................................

1. Hello there ;) As my very first question, you're probably going to see this one coming... Where do you draw your inspiration from for your designs?

I get my inspiration from my love for designer, Jean Charles De Catelbajac and also from cartoons and animations. I am still a kid at heart and i love playing with toys and collecting them! I also love colour as i find the world to be rather grey sometimes and it needs more POW now and then!

2. Toyboy must have taken a while for you to get things up and running. How long have you been doing this for, and is it the only thing you do? Do you have any other hobbies or things you're involved in?

Toyboy Designs is still a baby and has been established for nearly a year come July. But due to the nature of the items it grew really fast in the eye of the media. Toyboy Designs is and all round design based company. Managing it takes all of my attention at the moment as i am handling the fashion design, decor, styling, events and photography side and my business partner, Reynier Krause is handling the Furniture and Interior design side.

The furniture and clothing range is currently in prototype phase but will be released to the media soon.

Toyboy is also having an event at the woods in JHB Newtown on the 29th of June named Toybox.

3. What was the biggest challenge for you involving starting up a local fashion brand?

Getting the name out there and finding stockists. Ive managed to get Toyboy Designs
published in a few magazines but it wasn't an easy task. We are still
searching for more stockists as we are only stocking JHB
and Pretoria at the moment.

 4. I see on your site it says "(Contact) to order your custom design"... What's been the most interesting or weirdest thing anyone's wanted to order from you?

I had an order to design a Disney Goofey face necklace once and also a bulk order of Star Trek brooches for a trekkies party.

5. Where do you aim to move your brand in the future? Where do you see everything going?

Id like to have a Toyboy store, locally and overseas that range from clothing, accessories, art, decor and just amazingness and also to make the name toyboy designs knows as a name for styling, photography, creative direction and of course amazing events nationally.

6. Social media-ness is seemingly becoming uber important, especially for small local brands. Let us know ALL your deets and where people can find you online?

My facebook page is kept very active with all details and invites to Toyboy hosted parties:
on twitter: toyboy_designs
and then online at www.toyboydesigns.com
and at 072 369 0190!

And LAST but not least, visit
the brilliantly designed TOYBOY website to see
more products (and also to see
a well-designed website ;)  )

Stefania Morland - A/W 2012

Stefania Morland...

...................................................

... is by far one of my favourite South African designers.

She first caught my eye at last years S.A Fashion Week in Cape Town with her dazzling show which ended off with a magnificent fluffy ball gown worn by a beautiful singer whos head was adorned with branches and twigs and there were these serene flying paper birds hanging everywhere... This image really does the show no justice but to give you an idea:

Now when one hears the name Stefania Morland, one thinks ruffles, feathers, prime beauty and everything gorgeous, lavish and feminine. Her wedding dresses, amongst her other designs, really are a treat for the eye...

And her A/W 2012 campaign encompasses just that. Shot by Kris Roussouw, this shoot hold a romantic, almost dark, allure of soft tonal colours and stunning garments... Again, like most other big fashion labels the colours for her palette tend to lean towards neutrals, blacks and whites of different variation to create tone and shadows within the outfits. Beautiful stuff.

Seeing designers like this and campaigns so beautifully executed as this was makes me totally proud to live in such an amazingly talented and creatively diverse country.

Enjoy!

A Fashion Friend - Expose

A Fashion Friend - Expose...

..............................................

... Well hello there. Let me first start this post by introducing to you a brilliant locally created
online fashion Magazine type module called A Fashion Friend.
I am constantly on there, browsing and looking through all the great stuff they feature and explore...

Their newest issue, actually released today, holds a shoot called Expose,
which I think brilliantly summarizes quite a few current A/W trends...

Firstly, I love this striking shoot... Anything black and white always catched my eye ;) Avron and Chloe (the photographer and stylist for this shoot) found old newspapers from the 40's and 50's one day and hence found their muse for this shoot...

" It's a pity how cluttered and undramatic the newspapers are today, everything seemed
so much more animated back then. We kept everything monochrome because we wanted her to be a part of the background, like she'd stepped out of the front page. We called it Exposé
beacuse it was almost as if she had been exposed. "

- Chloe

This shoot is a pretty cool mix of all that is fun this winter:

Thigh-high stockings
Houndstooth, Polka Dots, Stripes and Leopard Prints
Fur
Printed stockings
Collars
and my fav ... printed striking graphic tees!

Well done to those involved:

Photography - Avron

Styling and Design - Chloe Andrea
(my cousin... yes, see how the fashion flair runs

Concept and Art direction - Avron and Chloe Andrea

Model- Nikita Stallbom from Boss

Enjoy the images and don't forget to go look at all the other fashiony bits in their newest issue over here ;)
